Introduction

Contrary to popular belief, not all Asians are the same. I am not just Asian, I am a proud Korean. No, this doesn’t mean I listen exclusively to K-pop or watch Korean soap operas/dramas. It means that my people have been around for hundreds of thousands of years, passing specific values and traditions down many bloodlines.

The reason I chose this topic for my autoethnography was that for all my life, I never really questioned or tried to figure out who I really am, and what could have influenced that. I also wanted to show other people who Koreans really are, as I feel the media has negatively portrayed all of Korea as BTS, an extremely popular Korean boy band.

As I explain our cultures, values, and traditions, all I can hope is that you enjoy learning something about Korean people and our history! 감사합니다!
